Andreas Luttens, PhD

Andreas obtained his degree in chemistry from Ghent University, Belgium. He pursued a PhD in molecular life sciences at Uppsala University, after which he moved to MIT to work on deep learning methods for the discovery of new antibiotics. Andreas is currently a DDLS Fellow in Epidemiology and Biology of Infection at Karolinska Institutet. He loves going on holiday with his wife, where he tries to spend as much time as possible scuba-diving!
Dario Akaberi, PhD
Research specialist
Dario is a virologist with a strong interest in all aspects of preclinical antiviral research, spanning both in silico and in vitro approaches. He studied Biological Sciences at the University of Ferrara in Italy before moving to Sweden to pursue a master's degree in Infection Biology. During his PhD and postdoctoral research, he worked on protease inhibitors targeting orthoflaviviruses and coronaviruses. Dario's current interests include exploring new methodologies for compound screening and gaining a deeper understanding of ligand–target interactions
Facundo Nahuel Gallo, PhD
Postdoctoral researcher
Facundo holds a PhD in Biological Chemistry from the University of Buenos Aires, with a focus on medicinal chemistry and antiviral drug discovery. During his PhD, he worked on the discovery and development of flavivirus entry inhibitors, combining computational simulations with organic synthesis strategies and in vitro biological evaluation. He is interested in applying advanced computational approaches to accelerate drug discovery projects. Outside the lab, Facundo enjoys music, sports, and spending time outdoors. He is also passionate about travelling and discovering new places, people and cultures.
Aslıhan Özcan
Visiting PhD student
Aslıhan is a PhD candidate in Biomedical Engineering at Acıbadem University. She holds an MSc in Bioengineering from Marmara University. Her work focuses on molecular modeling and computational drug design, with an emphasis on antimicrobial peptides and anti-virulence approaches against bacterial pathogens. She has contributed to studies involving molecular docking, protein–ligand interactions, and molecular dynamics simulations. Her current interests include developing computational strategies for peptide design and targeting bacterial regulatory systems. Outside of her academic work, she enjoys cycling, fitness, and exploring new countries.
Tung Dao Quang
Master thesis student
Tung received his pharmacist degree from Hanoi University of Pharmacy in 2015. After graduation, he worked as a clinical pharmacist for 8 years at National Hospital for Tropical Disease in Vietnam. Tung is currently pursuing a Master degree in Artificial Intelligence for Health at Stockholm University. His interest lies in using AI for drug discovery and development.
Josefin Gejdebäck

Josefin is studying for an M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering with a focus on Pharmaceuticals at Uppsala University. During her studies, she took part in an exchange program at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China. She is interested in learning how computational modelling can help improve drug discovery. In her free time, she enjoys travelling and has recently discovered a love for surfing
Jonathan Kunz
Master thesis student
I am a master student in biochemistry from Heidelberg University. During my studies I focused on machine learning and molecular simulation approaches which lead me to internships at the German Cancer Research Institue, University of Amsterdam and A*STAR CFAR. There I was involved in projects for peptide design, inverse folding models and virtual screening for RNA targets. If not working you will find me in the gym or enjoying nature.
Magdalena Osełka
Project student
Magdalena holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from the University of Warsaw. She is currently pursuing the Molecular Techniques in Life Science joint programme at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm University, and KTH Royal Institute of Technology. During her studies, she discovered the significant impact of computational modeling in biological research, which inspired her to contribute to this rapidly developing field. Outside of academia, Magdalena enjoys an active lifestyle and thrives in sports, with football being her favorite.
Tommaso Tron
Project student
Tommaso is a master student in High Performance Computing Engineering at Politecnico di Milano and KTH Royal Institute of Technology, with a background in Mathematical Engineering. His research interests include scientific machine learning, PDE-based modeling, and computational approaches for complex systems. In his free time, he enjoys running and hiking.

Elnaz Aledavood, PhD
Visiting postdoctoral researcher
Elnaz is a postdoctoral researcher at the Spanish National Research Council. She obtained her Ph.D. in Biotechnology and has expertise in computational chemistry and drug design. Her research focuses on structure-based drug design, fragment-based approaches, and molecular dynamics simulations. She is also interested in expanding her expertise in AI methods for drug discovery. In her free time, she enjoys travelling, going to cafés, and playing the flute.
Lin Chen
Visiting PhD student
Lin holds an MEng from Huzhou University and is currently a third-year PhD student in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on machine learning and AI for structure-based virtual screening, drug discovery, and cheminformatics. Lin joined the team in February 2026 for a research exchange.
